After all, a bikini giveaway probably doesn't do you much good.

EAS, one of the world leaders in sports nutrition, has put together a package not just for beginning, intermediate and serious athletes, but for weightlifters, bodybuilders and overall fitness enthusiasts of every age -- no matter what their activity of choice may be. The giveaway includes:

18 Myoplex Strength Formula Shakes (in various flavors, including chocolate cream, vanilla cream, strawberry cream and banana cream). Taken within 30 minutes after working out, these protein, carbohydrate and nutrient drinks help refuel and rebuild lean muscle.

12 Myoplex Strength Formula Bars (six chocolate mint and six cookies and cream). These bars provide the same nutrients to help refuel and rebuild lean muscle as the drinks, but are easier to bring anywhere!

16 packets of Pro Science Push. A patented blend of creatine, beta-alanine, and taurine clinically shown to increase anaerobic threshold and workout capacity (plus increase muscle strength by 15 percent).

16 packets of Pro Science Reload. Another unique blend of creatine, glutamine, taurine and HMB designed to maintain and protect muscle during high-intensity training (to prevent your muscles from breaking down after exercise).

10 packets of Pro Science Finish. advanced high-protein recovery formula that delivers essential amino acids to help build muscles and increase lean body mass.

Two packets of Pro Science Armor. An arginine, glutamine and HMB formula drink that helps muscles support the rigorous demands of resistance training.

One EAS Size XL Shirt (just for fun!).

One Pro Science Information Pamphlet (so you know how it all works when you get it).

We had several testers try samples of each product months before putting this package together, and the overall consensus was overwhelming compared to other nutritional supplements tested. One tester really was blown away at the taste. "The Myoplex products are packed with protein, but they don't have any of the additional fat, high-carbs or high amounts of sugar you typically experience with so-called healthy protein products," the tester said. All we can say is that they're right, which is rare among many of the nutritional products on the market.

Working out may be the number one option most men turn to when they want to lose weight, but if you're not keeping your diet in check, all of that hard work in the gym can be easily thwarted by all those tasty, bad-for-you foods.

Making healthy eating easier for men is one of the key missions of this guy-focused section of That's Fit, which is why when registered and licensed dietitian (and certified diabetes educator) Susan Burke March, author of "Making Weight Control Second Nature: Living Thin Naturally," came to us with a few of her tried-and-true cooking tips, we couldn't pass it up.

If you're an old dog that thinks he can never learn new tricks -- especially when it comes to learning how to cook healthier meals -- here's the real deal. According to March, "With just a little preparation and forethought and using just a few simple strategies, you can enjoy favorite recipes with less fat, sugar and calories without sacrificing flavor." Here are just a few of her tricks that can make a big difference in your diet, no matter how dysfunctional you are in the kitchen.

Prepare to Succeed. "Plan your meals in advance, eat a healthy snack, and then go shopping to better avoid 'impulse' purchases," said March. "You'll have the healthy options you need at hand when you're hungry and actually start to cook."

Keep It Simple. "Avoid recipes with too many steps and ingredients," said March. "A simple grilled, broiled or baked dish without too many components and processes, a fresh vegetable and a starch is your best bet."

Think Lean. "Buy the leanest cuts of meat and trim all visible fat before cooking -- and always pick ground meat that's at least 95 percent lean," she said. "Try ground turkey burgers for a change, or replace at least one-third of your ground beef with ground turkey breast." March's best tip: "Be sure to buy ground turkey breast, as the alternative variety contains skin and dark meat, making it higher in fat and calories."

Stick to Non-Stick. "Stock up on nonstick pans for baking, grilling, sautéing, and even for heating up soup," said March. Why? "Nonstick pans allow you to avoid using oil in favor of healthier options, such as cooking spray, wine, water or fruit juice."

Mission-Critical Method. "Bake, broil, grill or poach your proteins," she said. If you have to baste anything, skip the butter or margarine. Instead, "cut the saturated and trans fat by basting with flavorful vegetable broth, white wine or orange juice instead."

Crumbs Count. "Instead of commercial breadcrumbs, which are usually full of oil and trans fat, substitute a low-sugar crunchy breakfast cereal, such as Grape Nuts or organic wheat flakes (just be sure to avoid cereals with more than four to six grams of sugar per serving)," said March.
This week, Harvard Medical School's Harvard Health Publications division issued some important information that could help you gauge how effective your workouts are, so you can decide if you're wasting your time in the gym or putting in the right amount of time.

According to Harvard's strength and power training special health report, "the evidence supporting strength training (and exercise in general) is so compelling that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults do muscle-strengthening exercises for all major muscle groups at least twice a week. Ideally, this should be combined with at least 150 minutes of moderate (or 75 minutes of vigorous) aerobic activity per week, as well as balance and flexibility exercises."

Do the math -- that means you should be doing at least two strength-training sessions per week, in addition to five days of 30-minute moderate-intensity cardio sessions (or three or four days of roughly 20 to 25 minutes of high-intensity cardio training). For some, that may not just seem daunting, but more importantly, it may sound boring. But that's where those brainiacs at Harvard may be just what you need in your corner.

Harvard's report, "Strength and Power Training: A Guide for Adults of All Ages," offers tips for keeping things fresh to help making strength training a lifelong endeavor. That's Fit got them to reveal their top four suggestions for mixing things up and keeping your muscles guessing and growing.

Try new equipment. Substitute one type of equipment for another. For example, work out with machines instead of free weights one day a week, or switch from one brand of machine to another. Or, try exercises using a medicine ball, resistance bands or resistance tubing.

Change your pace. Vary your intensity -- do one hard, one medium and one lighter workout in cycles of seven to 10 days. This is a form of periodization, an exercise strategy that can enhance strength gains, help sidestep plateaus and avoid overtraining while allowing more time for the body to heal after being thoroughly taxed. Because it can be difficult to put together a good periodization strategy, it's essential to work with an exercise professional to come up with an effective plan that's tailored to your needs.

Exercise with a friend when you can. If your friend is careful about good form too, this can be a way to help reinforce good habits. Some gyms have a buddy board to help members find workout partners.

Work with a trainer. Pay for a session or two with a certified personal trainer who can help you develop a well-rounded new routine.

It's not easy being a guy, especially because we're not the type to bare our feelings, admit our weaknesses and rally around others like women seem to do with ease. That's a shame, since it's that kind of one-on-one support that can make all the difference when it comes to losing weight.

Having a weight-loss partner has been shown to play a huge role in helping you stick with a fitness and nutrition plan. But asking another guy for support isn't always the easiest thing to do (after all, it could warrant a few sarcastic comments and digs from other guys if you're not careful).

That's why finding a weight-loss buddy partner online can be an easier solution for men to pull off. In fact, here's even better news: Not only will finding a weight-loss buddy online spare you from feeling embarrassed asking your friends and co-workers, but according to a classic University of Vermont study, researchers discovered that people who were paired off with an online weight-loss buddy actually lost more weight than others who met face-to-face in a support group. That means less shame and more weight loss!

To give you a head start, we looked at one popular online support system called WeightLossBuddy.com, a site that connects people throughout the U.S. and Canada looking for support when losing weight and getting in shape. The site is free, and once you sign up (which takes a few minutes, maximum), you're on your way to browse the site for other members that share your interests, weight-loss goals, activities and more throughout North America (or within a certain radius of where you live).

According to our tester, finding like-minded guys looking to lend support or share fitness and diet tips was fairly easy. And, because the site offers a calorie counter, recipes, a way to track your diet, meal planning and about 50 other interesting and helpful features, there's a nice database to turn to that can also help you find more creative ways to burn away those extra pounds.

Here's the best part, though: We went to the source to find out exactly how many real guys are actually on the site (since many weight-loss support sites tend to cater mostly to women). There are over 67,000 men just like you who want to lose weight (roughly 20 percent of the site's members), which isn't a bad place to start if you could use a boost in the "you can do it" department.

Readers at That's Fit are asking questions about the Spartacus workout -- a training regime that was created by fitness experts Adam Campbell and Rachel Cosgrove to help the cast of Starz' TV show "Spartacus" get into rock-hard shape. It's proof our readers (that's you!) are in touch with what's up-and-coming when it comes to new and imaginative workout programs -- and we're happy to share what makes this simple, yet creative workout so effective.

The Spartacus workout is basically a circuit routine of 10 exercises that work every part of your body [to see the exercises, check out Men's Health's web site for both pictures and exercise descriptions for each move.]. To do it, you perform one set of each exercise -- or "station" -- in succession for a total of 60 seconds, doing as many reps as you can with perfect form. If you can't exercise for the entire 60 seconds, exercisers are encouraged to go as long as they can, rest for a few seconds, then continue until the minute is up.

After that, you move on to the next station, resting 15 seconds in between. After you've completed the entire 10-move circuit, rest for two minutes, then repeat the circuit twice more for a total of three times. The workout is repeated three times a week, resting a day in between each workout.

Pros: What's great about the routine is that -- much like most weight-training based circuit programs -- it's equally effective at burning fat as it is building muscle. (A lot of men never realize what a great fat-burning tool weight-training exercises can be when performed at the right pace and the right intensity.)

What's also nice is that you can do all of the exercises sans dumbbells, so if you're not strong enough at your current fitness level, you can still do the routine without dumbbells. That's a huge plus in my book, since many workouts expect you to either be strong enough to perform them from the start (even when you're still a beginner), or, may require a few extra pieces of equipment that you don't have (requiring more of a cash commitment than you may be willing to invest in.)

Cons: With the workout available right on Men's Health's site -- and the fact that you can try the workout without weights (so there's no excuse not to give it a shot) -- it's hard to find any downsides. I did the workout myself prior to writing this, just to remind myself of the intensity and it's a smart, well-structured routine that truly elevates your heart rate, challenges your muscles and leaves your body feeling spent from head to toe (And if that sounds horrible, just remember, that's how a good workout should feel, or else you're just wasting your time.)

You can learn more about the science behind the Spartacus workout. Also, the Spartacus workout is part of Adam Campbell's new book, "The Men's Health Big Book of Exercises," which I highly recommend.

It's pretty easy to see why weight training gets boring for most guys. After all, it can be pretty challenging to make things exciting when you're stuck doing the same exercises over and over again. That's when a little strategic creativity can help reap more results from the same muscle-building exercises you're already doing. These three tried-and-true tactics -- fresh from my bestselling book, the "Ultimate Dumbbell Guide" -- can accelerate your muscle potential, without having to make major changes to the exercises you're already doing.

The Run/Rack Approach
This exercise technique lets you blast your muscles more thoroughly in the same set. Although you can do it with a weight stack machine, it's called 'run the rack' because it works easiest while standing in front of the rack of various-sized dumbbells in your gym.

To Do It: Stand in front of the dumbbell rack with a light weight in each hand that's approximately 40 percent of the amount you would normally lift for eight repetitions. Lift the weight eight times, then quickly return the dumbbells to the rack and grab the next heaviest dumbbell (On average, the increase will be either 2.5 or 5 pounds, depending on the selection of dumbbells at your gym.) Repeat the exercise again for another eight repetitions, grab the next heaviest pair and continue for another eight repetitions. Keep increasing the weight with each set until you can barely eke out eight repetitions.

The Rest/Pause Approach
This technique lets you do more repetitions with heavier weight than you can normally lift, which will force them to grow stronger and larger.

To Do It: Choose a weight you can only lift for a total of four to five repetitions. Do a set of four or five reps, then lower the weight and rest for five to six seconds. Lift the weight for another repetition, then rest again for another five to six seconds. Keep repeating the process until you've completed a total of eight full repetitions.

The Nine Angles Approach
Most guys fall into the trap of doing three sets of three exercises to work each muscle group, but instead, you can perform one set each of nine different exercises. This helps conditions each muscle through nine different angles in one workout instead of three, so a higher percentage of muscle fiber gets trained for better results.
That's why if you haven't already started to trim the fat and calories you've been binging on all season long, it's time to start.

One area most men find impossible to keep in check is their lunches, which is why we've come up with a few easy-to-handle nutritional tips that don't require foraging like a bird, or, feeling emasculated by how little you're allowed to eat. Instead, these 'manly' tweaks let you feast more like a man-without losing your dignity.

Guiltless Grilled Cheese: Instead of cooking one in the traditional way, try toasting two slices of bread, place one slice of reduced-fat cheddar cheese between them, sprinkle a little powdered butter substitute on the cheese, then stick the sandwich on a paper towel in the microwave. Nuke it for 20-25 seconds - just enough to melt the cheese -- and you're done.

Fat-friendly Fried Chicken: Buy yourself a bucket the day before you plan on eating it, wrap each piece in a paper towel, place the chicken into a different container, then toss it in your fridge. The towels will soak up some of the fat, plus, eating it cold will let you peel away even more congealed fat and make you eat less since fried foods tend to be less appetizing when served cold (so you'll be likely to eat less).

A Pain-Free Peanut Butter Sandwich: Skip the traditional peanut butter and switch it up with an all-natural brand (the type where the oil rises to the top of the jar.) Dump out the oil -- which is a large portion of the fat -- then spread away.

The Right Kind of Reuben: Switch the corned beef (which is loaded in fat) for turkey ham instead, then add some low-fat mozzarella, spicy shredded cabbage, mustard and pickles on two slices of whole-grain rye bread. Broil it until the cheese melts and you're done, minus about 12 grams of fat.

A Sub That Won't Sink You: Instead of eating a meat sub like veal Parmesan or a meatball hoagie, try this trick instead. Cut some eggplant into a few cubed pieces, spread on some olive oil, then lightly brown them under the broiler. Mix them in with a little fat-free tomato sauce and capers, spread them into a whole-wheat Kaiser roll, then top it with grated Parmesan.

A Guy's Gyro: Strip the fat and calories from this favorite lunchtime dish by mixing up a dollop of nonfat yogurt, chopped cucumbers and a squeeze of lemon juice. Spread it inside a whole-wheat pita lined with fat-trimmed grilled chicken strips, roll and eat.

Who says you can't lose weight being around food all day? That's Fit spoke to one chef who loved food so much, he weighed as much as 330 pounds. Now, 125 pounds lighter, he shares his secrets on how to burn fat while constantly surrounded by fatty foods.

Chef Scott Wall of Lark Creek Walnut Creek restaurant in Walnut Creek, Calif. is an inspiration to men everywhere. If you think staying lean and healthy is difficult for you, then imagine what it's like when it's your job to create food most people would die for on a nightly basis. For Wall, that wasn't easy, since he eats roughly 80 percent of his meals at the restaurant, where he has worked since graduating from culinary school in 2000. But after he tipped the scales at 330 pounds, he knew it was time for a change.

He's lost an astonishing 125 pounds in the last two years by exercising and changing his diet. His new lease on life has also meant creating seasonal, healthy dishes that don't skimp on flavor. Some of the dishes he's designed (and now offers on his menu for his patrons to help them lose weight as well) include grilled steelhead salmon with English peas, asparagus and vine ripened tomato salsa, as well as blackened Alaskan halibut with sweet corn and cherry tomato relish. Wall's weight loss is infectious, which is why we asked him how he's able to eat smart when his main job is to keep his customers full and satisfied.

That's Fit: What was the downside health-wise of being in your profession?

Scott Wall: It's definitely the long days of working in the kitchen with very little exercise. It's a vicious cycle. I would consume large amounts of food at one sitting, usually late at night right before going to sleep. A lot of those meals were fast food because that was the only thing open after working every night. Add in a few after-work drinks and it was a very unhealthy combination.

TF: What made you decide that enough was enough with your weight?

SW: I just wasn't feeling healthy any more. Plus, photos taken at our company picnic scared me -- I didn't realize quite how large I had become until I saw them. Throughout my life, I've always been athletic, but at my heaviest, I was nothing close to athletic. I would have times where I was short of breath doing things that never tired me out when I wasn't as heavy, like walking up a flight of stairs in the parking garage, or getting to my truck after work. I was even shopping at Big and Tall to find pants that fit, which I'd never done before.

TF: What changes does a chef make with his diet to trim down?

SW: The most effective change I made to my diet was to cut out fried foods, cheeses and butter. I also try to eat more in the mornings now, knowing that I have all day to burn the calories off by being active. Plus, I spread my food consumption over four or five smaller meals in a day and stop eating several hours before going to bed.

Nutritionally, I haven't had fast food in probably two years. I also don't eat out nearly as much now, which is challenging because as a chef it's part of my job to dine at other restaurants and see what's out there, but it's too much of a temptation. Other changes I made have included cutting out eating most breads and heavy carbs, and creating power salads. Instead of eating sandwiches, these salads include tons of vegetables (raw or blanched), proteins, like chicken breast or ahi tuna, a whole avocado, garlic, onions, herbs and jalapeños. I now dress my salads with lemon juice, vinegar and a little oil, or, with salsa. If I do eat a sandwich, I'll use guacamole instead of mayonnaise and cheese. Finally, I've also cut out the majority of alcohol consumption, soda and energy drinks. The empty calories just weren't worth it, so now, I drink lots of water and iced tea.

TF: Do you find time to work out with your busy schedule?

SW: Exercise played a huge role in my weight loss. I was working out around 5-6 days a week when I really began to drop the weight. When I would go to the gym, I try to work out harder because I knew I might not be there for a day or two. Now that I've reached my target weight, I've leveled that out a bit and work out two or three days a week.

TF: What activities really shaved off the pounds for you?

SW: I never got into taking classes at the gym because I can't usually fit them into my schedule, since my only free time tends to be after work, which is between midnight and 2:00 a.m. So I began to run a lot more, which I never did before. I also played a lot of five-on-five full court basketball and lifted free weights to tone and build muscle. But now that I've lost the weight, I am really focusing on my abs more by doing a lot more core exercises to try and lose the extra skin I have left over on my belly.

TF: Finally, what's been the biggest challenge for a chef that makes it difficult to stay slim?

SW: Being in the restaurant and surrounded by all this good food! A lot of our menu is really hearty stuff like meat and potatoes, especially in the colder winter months. It's really hard to avoid things like the French fry bowl and staying away from the cheeses and breads.

For me, it's picking at food that I really had to stop, since I never found myself sitting down and eating a whole bowl of food. I also have trouble staying away from the desserts. The pastry chef we have is really creative and it's hard to avoid them -- and the cookie jar we have on the counter. But, you just have to be strict with yourself. You can just as easily snack on blanched green beans or broccoli as you can on mashed potatoes. It's all a matter of just saying no -- then shoving fruit into your mouth instead of a French fry!
Just a few small tweaks to your everyday routine can spike your growth hormone levels through the roof, giving your body more than enough to build larger, stronger muscles. Here's your all-day schedule to tricking your body to eke out more of the hormone every guy wishes he had more of!

Here's how it works, guys: Before you can have any brawn, it all starts with your brain. That's because inside it is your anterior pituitary gland, a thumb-sized organ that is responsible for secreting growth hormone into your bloodstream. It's the chemical that ultimately tells your muscles to grow bigger and stronger. It's also the chemical that helps transform excess fat into energy. In other words, the more you have coursing through your veins, the more muscle -- and less fat -- you're likely to see in the mirror. Getting your brain to dispense even more than usual takes the right combination of tricks throughout the day -- tricks that are so simple, anyone could do them.

Here are the four ways you can get more growth hormone today, so you can look even more impressive tomorrow.

1. Sleep eight full hours.
Not getting enough shut-eye actually shuts down the amount of growth hormone your body releases, and since many people are often sleep-deprived, odds are, you're probably limiting how much GH your body should be getting.

2. Eat six to seven small meals a day.
Maybe you already know that eating six to seven smaller meals daily -- as opposed to eating three bigger meals daily -- can prevent your insulin levels from spiking (which can cause your body to store more excess calories floating in your system as fat). But that insulin surge also lowers the release of GH into your bloodstream. Eating smaller meals every few hours can prevent that insulin spike, so you store less fat while your body simultaneously releases more of the hormones you need to grow.

3. Make your workouts as intense as possible.
Research has shown that the amount of growth hormone your body releases depends on the intensity of your workouts. Exercising at a higher intensity can cause the release of more GH more often, so to maximize how much your body generates, stick with workouts that utilize more explosive, high-intensity anaerobic exercises. Performing certain multi-joint exercises that allow you to lift more weight-such as squats, clean and presses, deadlifts and other compound movements also force your anterior pituitary gland to release a greater amount of growth hormone.

4. Never eat heavy right before bedtime.
The reason is simple: Your anterior pituitary gland releases its largest amount of GH for the day during the first two hours of sleep. By eating before bedtime, it causes the same elevation of insulin that eating larger meals during the day does, which can suppress how much GH gets released into your bloodstream. So, instead of growing muscles as you sleep -- and how great is that -- you're silently holding yourself back from seeing serious muscular growth.

It's obvious that being hooked on social networks, like Facebook, can reduce how much time you have in your day to exercise, but new research has shown that who you choose to connect with can also affect your self-control in your diet. Are Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other sites helping you lose weight -- or hurting your chances of getting in shape for good?

According to research performed at the University of Georgia, it seems that 'self-control' can be spread through social networks. In just one of their studies, "71 volunteers watched others exert self-control by choosing a carrot from a plate in front of them instead of a cookie from a nearby plate, while others watched people eat the cookies instead of the carrots. The volunteers had no interaction with the tasters other than watching them, yet their performance was altered on a later test of self-control, depending on who they were randomly assigned to watch."

What was the verdict? Subjects who watched someone exercise self-control by eating a carrot had elevated scores later on with a test measuring their self restraint. According to the lead author Michelle vanDellen, a visiting assistant professor in the UGA department of psychology, it means the "take home message of this study is that picking social influences that are positive can improve your self-control," she said. "The magnitude of the influence might be significant enough to be the difference between eating an extra cookie at a party or not, or deciding to go to the gym despite a long day at work. The effect isn't so strong that it absolves people of accountability for their actions, but it is a nudge toward or away from temptation."

For guys, that means you are who you surround yourself with. If you're having a hard time losing weight, then do yourself a favor and check your 'friends' list on Facebook (or whatever social network you follow). If everyone you follow on the Web -- or even hang around with at the bar, ball game or after work -- typically cheats on their diet, remember that you're more inclined to follow their example and do the same. Weeding through your friends list and following people you know are on track, as opposed to the ones whose dietary and exercise habits are a disaster, could be exactly what you need to get an unexpected boost of motivation to help stay on track with your diet and exercise regime.

For even more frightening facts about social networking sites raising your risk of developing cancer, this article will shock you. And, if you need a few positive role-models to follow to help you stay motivated, you can follow That's Fit on Twitter and Facebook.
In fact, you can build a rock-hard core without ever needing to do a single crunch at all. If you're looking for six-pack abs of steel in seconds to spare, these three core-challenging, bodyweight-only exercises are all you'll need to create a mighty midsection. To be honest, there are thousands of exercises you can do for your midsection. But I've found that after writing about health and fitness for over a decade, the workout routines that end up being the most effective for the average person are the ones that anyone can make time for.

When I wrote "The Body You Want in the Time You Have" for Men's Health, the editors told me the biggest issue readers had with exercise was having enough time to work out. So I devised a book for men and women that made it easy to exercise, even if you only have 10 minutes a week to devote to it.

To really make this abs program one that's impossible to resist, I designed it with that same theory in mind, choosing intense ab moves that offer more bang you're your buck -- so after five minutes, your abdominals will have little choice but feel their effects. Using three Pilates-inspired moves that punish your midsection from every angle, each of these three exercises keep your core muscles activated throughout the entire movement as you train them-so you yield even more results in even less time.

Now, the only excuse you have for not having a stronger, firmer midsection is ignoring this article. Give this workout a try three to five times a week and in a matter of weeks, you'll be glad you didn't.

Your Three-Way Routine

1. Toe Touch Sweeps
Lie flat on your back with your knees tucked up into your chest; arms down at your sides. Slowly extend your legs out and up so they're off the floor at a 45-degree angle as you simultaneously lift your torso off the floor at a 45-degree angle (You should look like the letter V). As you go, raise your arms up and reach as high as you can towards your feet.

Hold this pose for one to two seconds, then slowly raise your arms up over your head until they're in line with your torso (your upper arms will be next to your ears.) Slowly bring your arms down again so your hands are reaching for your feet once more, then slowly lower your legs, torso and arms back down to the floor. Do this entire cycle for as many reps as possible.

2. Crazy Eights
Lie on your back with your knees tucked up into your chest; arms down along your sides. Keeping your legs together, straighten them and raise them straight up so your heels are aimed at the ceiling.

Leaving your head and shoulders on the floor, slowly rotate your feet in a clockwise fashion and draw the number "8" in the air using just your feet. Once you've drawn it, reverse the motion and draw another figure eight, only this time, do it counter-clockwise. Draw as many "8's" as you can for one set. Repeat for eight circles (both sides). Do three sets.

3. V-Knee Tucks
Lie flat on your back with your knees tucked up into your chest; arms down at your sides. Slowly extend your legs out and up so they're off the floor at a 45-degree angle as you simultaneously lift your torso off the floor. As you go, extend your arms out in front of you with your hands along the outsides of your legs. This is the start position.

Now, slowly draw your left knee towards your chest, while keeping your right leg extended straight out in front of you. Straighten your left leg so you're back in the start position, then repeat the exercise, this time, drawing your right knee into your chest (keeping your left leg extended straight in front of you). Continue to alternate between your left and right leg for as many repetitions as possible.

We spoke to Christine Teigen (musician John Legend's girlfriend and a first-timer in this year's SI Swimsuit special) on what she did to get in shape for the 2010 issue -- and surprisingly, the answers she gave us are tips that any guy can use to lose weight and look fit fast. So as you ogle, try to remember Teigen's advice -- you might just find yourself inspired to get in beach-ready shape as well.

That's Fit: How many photo shoots or projects would you say you do that you need to stay fit for each year?

Christine Teigen: For swimsuit-ready shoots, I'd say about 75 and I need to stay in shape for all of them. I don't do many of the high-fashion shoots where you have to be super thin. Instead, I do a lot of swimsuit and lingerie shoots, so you have to have all of your curves and look strong, so I have to prepare a bit differently.

TF: So to stay in SI shape, let's talk about the sacrifices you have to make that a lot of guys could learn from. What foods are absolute no-nos?

CT: Most people think models don't eat, but I am just obsessed with food, so I have to work a little bit harder to get in shape. I'm a big salt eater, which is bad because eating too much of it leaves you looking and feeling bloated. If I eat too many salty foods at night, I look bloated the next morning.

TF: So one easy way to look less puffy for guys would be to minimize their sodium intake, especially the night before any event they may want to look better for.

CT: Exactly. I follow a two-day rule. If I have a shoot on a Friday, then I'll slip on my diet on a Wednesday. That way, I'll go to bed feeling light on Thursday (when I'll watch what I eat) and won't look puffy on Friday.

TF: It doesn't seem like you sacrifice as much as men would expect?

CT: Nope. I still need to have what I want because my problem is having cravings. If I see a food in a commercial, I have to satisfy that craving, or else, I'll want it even more later and probably eat more of it than I should. So it's always helped me to just eat when I have a craving, then work out more later to make up the difference. I don't believe in eliminating foods -- instead, it's all about smaller portions.

TF: So instead of denying 'every' craving men may have, they should know not to be afraid to satisfy their cravings in smaller doses to prevent a major binge, then work off those calories later in the gym. What are some of the healthy foods do you rely on to stay lean?

CT: I like scallops and raw fish, like sushi. Another thing I really like and eat a lot of is turkey bacon and turkey burgers. They really satisfy me without feeling gross afterward. I'm actually not a brown rice lover, so I'm trying to find other types of foods that are just as filling and fibrous. I enjoy potatoes and pasta, but I know that when I have them, it bloats me up.

TF: Guys love burgers, so it sounds like making the switch to turkey is the perfect way to feel like you're cheating without really doing so and get enough protein. And staying away from the white flour products (potatoes and pastas, for example) are a must as well to stay lean. So how about exercise?

CT: I'm really proud of myself if I can exercise five times a week, but with my schedule, it's usually around three or four times per week. My trainer believes that if I pushed myself that hard, it would probably cause me to become burned out on exercise.

TF: Guys might assume that going full steam with exercise is the fastest way to burn fat, but it seems that pacing yourself pays off in the long run for you, since it keeps you from ever quitting, right?

CT: Right. You'll end up stopping for too long. It's best to think about longevity when it comes to exercise.

TF: What's an average week for you exercise-wise?

CT: I get bored easily and I hate cardio, so what I do is more circuit training routines. I never jump on any exercise machines and I don't jog on a treadmill. Instead, I do a lot of body weight exercises, lots of squats, lunges and plenty of sprints. I also do a lot of exercises using a medicine ball.

TF: Great tip! It sounds like you do a lot of high-intensity functional training like many athletes do to stay fit and mix things up-instead of what many guys often try and fail with, which is stick with the same boring routine week after week.

CT: Yeah exactly. Mixing things up makes you look forward to exercising instead of hating it. I used to quit on other trainers all the time, but now, I never regret a workout because it's always something new. But the hardest thing about a workout is just getting motivated to go and do it. If you can keep things interesting, you'll always want to exercise, instead of wishing you didn't have to.

Sione Fa, one of the contestants from the Season 8 of "The Biggest Loser," had seen his weight bounce up and down most of his life. He's tried every diet out there, which always caused him to gain the weight back -- and then some. As the owner of his own company, it was the long hours at work that kept him from eating right and exercising, and caused his weight to balloon to a staggering 372 pounds. But when he realized he never wanted to be a fat dad, and wanted to prevent his children from ending up the same way, he did something about it and lost over 130 pounds.

For Sione, it wasn't just a matter of shedding pounds, but also a chance to beat the odds his Tongan genetics had dealt him. According to statistics, over 60 percent of Tongans are obese (with some sources claiming even higher obesity stats -- as high as 90 percent). Determined to be at the 'lighter' end of that ratio, here's how Sione managed to strip away over 130 pounds of fat, proving that it's what you do, not what you're born with, that matters when it comes to weight loss.

Name: Sione Fa
Age: 30
Former Weight: 372
Current Weight: 241
Occupation: Group Trainer/Motivational Speaker
Based out of: Maricopa, AZ

That's Fit: What was the biggest factor that contributed to your weight gain?
Sione Fa: The funny thing about my weight gain was not that I gained it all at once, but that I had lost and regained my weight a few times in my life. I have been in shape before and overweight. I lost 146 pounds on the show, but it was not the first time that I had lost a considerable amount of weight. I tried every fad diet out there and they helped me lose weight, but not fix what was broken on the inside. Also, the fact that I come from a culture that believes that 'big is beautiful' means there's not a whole lot of pressure to look like The Rock. So deep down, we all want to lose the weight and be healthy but we kind of lack the drive because of the mentality that we think "hey everyone else is fat ... so why would I want to be different?"

TF: What was the final straw that made you decide to shed the weight?
SF: I knew I needed to change when normal everyday activities became a struggle. Tying your shoes, walking to your mailbox without losing your breath. I bought a Segway to get my mail! How pathetic is that? I know that every father or mother will say I want to be around for my kids. But I truly mean it. I know that fitness and exercise will not guarantee me more years on this earth but it will guarantee me one thing -- a better quality of life! I did it, and continue to do it for a quality of life with my family and friends.

TF: What were the most effective changes you made in your diet?
SF: Like I said before, I have tried every diet out there. All protein diets, diet pills, Thermogenics, even liquid diets. They may have helped me lose weight, but they did not help me figure out a lifestyle change. They taught me a quick fix to my problem, but what I needed to be on was a plan that I could maintain for the rest of my life. So the most effective thing was to learn the right amount of food -- and the right kinds of food -- to give me the fuel I needed to properly function throughout each day.

TF: How important was exercise in your weight loss?
SF: Exercise to me was key in my weight loss. If I don't do some sort of activity in the day or go to the gym I feel like crap. I have learned that exercise and food alone will not guarantee results, but the right combination of both can do wonders. Can you lose weight off dieting alone? Sure! But how much better do you feel when you give it all you've got in the gym, or while doing a workout DVD, or just even walking around the block? Better? I know I do!

TF: What types of activities did you use to drop the pounds?
SF: I have really grown to love interval training. It takes you to your limits and then gives your body the rest it needs, keeping your heart rate up all at the same time. It also helps the time go by a lot faster. Thirty minutes on the treadmill to me at a steady pace is like going to the dentist to me. But alternating between doing a one minute sprint and then walking for one minute makes me feel like a machine. I feel like I can do anything.

TF: What's been the biggest challenge about losing weight then and now?
SF: When we started on the Biggest Loser, I could not wait for the "maintenance" phase. It was hard losing weight! But I've got to be honest with you: The maintenance phase is not easy, either. This has got to be about a lifestyle change if you are coming from the same place I was. If not, then you may lose the weight you want some other way, but I will promise you that sooner or later, you'll gain it all back -- or worse. I know because I've been there and done that.

If you're saying to yourself, 'I will just get the weight off any way that I can (even through unhealthy ways) and then, I'll maintain it by eating healthy', then you're kidding yourself. You need to start incorporating that change now, and you will not only look good, but you'll be healthier and your quality of life will be unbelievable.

TF: Do you have a favorite low-calorie (but restaurant-rich) meal that our readers might like to try? Or, any tips on making a healthier food taste better?
SF: I love pizza! I still eat pizza. The thing is I know just get a thin crust and only have a couple pieces instead of the whole thing and by switching from original or Pan crust to thin crust you save a bunch of calories right there. If I make it at home, I get whole wheat dough and light tomato basil sauce (50 calories in 1/2 cup). Then, I add a little more basil, garlic powder and some Mrs. Dash to give it extra flavor -- and I use turkey pepperoni. I can't even tell the difference.
What's the newly-elected official's secret? Brown may be a known triathlete and gym-goer, but following his recent victory, he challenged President Obama to a basketball game (a sport he played in college at Tufts University, where he was known as Downtown Scotty Brown).

If the soon-to-be Senator is still skilled enough to offer that kind of challenge, he obviously shoots a few hoops when he's not campaigning. Smart, since playing basketball also burns between 500 to 650 calories an hour.

Even if you can't hit a basket to save your life, there are still a few basketball drills you can do that can be equally effective at losing that winter weight by burning fat and calories. The following drills and exercises are tried-and-true moves that many colleges and universities use with their players to get them in season shape. Now, you can use them to do the same -- whether you're running for office or not.
Continue reading Senator Scott Brown's Get Fit Moves

Permalink | Email this | Comments

10 Ways to Drop Excess Winter Weight

Filed under: Fitness, Guys' Guide, Men's Fitness
Looking for the easiest way to lose weight? Of course you are! Who has the time to sift through all of the diet programs you could be trying this month to lose weight?

And honestly, dropping those winter pounds doesn't have to be so difficult. Thanks to That's Fit, I've had the pleasure of reviewing a slew of diet books (including The Zone Diet, The Beck Diet, The Atkins Diet and YOU: On a Diet, to name a few) in order to help readers decide if these books are really worth their time. But to help you cut to the chase when it comes to cutting weight, I went one step further and asked Sarah Khan, registered dietitian affiliated with The Sports Club/LA -NY on Manhattan's Upper East Side to boil it down to the basics.

"Whether you are just starting a weight loss program or trying to lose those last 10 pounds, these tips can help in reaching your nutrition goals," said Khan. Simply put, here are the ten most important things you need to do in order to reach your target weight. Do all ten and we can guarantee you won't have to worry about your weight when spring hits. If you continue following fad diets that don't utilize these ten basic tips, you'll discover the reason you're still holding onto that wintertime belly.
Continue reading 10 Ways to Drop Excess Winter Weight

Permalink | Email this | Comments

How to Pick the Best Gym

Filed under: Fitness, Guys' Guide, Men's Fitness
The start of the New Year -- and the weight-loss resolutions that usually come with it -- is the reason that more people join a gym or health club in January than any other month of the year. It's also why, as the author of one of the only books published about finding, joining and using a gym (The Gym Bible), I get a flood of calls every year from newspaper editors and TV reporters looking for quotes on all the do's and don'ts of signing up for a health club membership.

I love it whenever someone feels compelled to finally take control of their fitness, but I hate it worse when someone picks a club or gym that's the wrong fit for them. It's the quickest way to fail -- and one of the main reasons why nearly 80 percent of new members stop going to their gym after 30-60 days.

To keep That's Fit readers from being a statistic (and instead, making sure that you find the perfect gym or club that will help you reach your exercise goals), I thought it was absolutely necessary to share some of those tried-and-true tips with you. Before you sign on the dotted line, these hard-and-fast rules can increase your chances of picking the best gym to help you get hard muscles fast.
Continue reading How to Pick the Best Gym

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Burn Twice the Fat in Half the Time "Between" the Holidays!

Filed under: Guys' Guide, Men's Fitness

Welcome to the week that most personal trainers say is the hardest week of the year to stay on target with your fitness goals. The days between Christmas and New Year's Eve are filled with tasty temptations and tons of activities ready to push you off the road of results. But it doesn't take much to keep fit and fight off the fat, in fact, having less time may be exactly what you need to burn even more calories than usual.

To help you burn as much fat as possible in the shortest amount of time, no matter what cardiovascular activity you like to do, That's Fit spoke with Melissa Nickas, kinesiologist and private trainer for the premiere health club, The Sports Club/L.A. in San Francisco, and asked her for a crash course in how to implement an interval training program that's guaranteed to melt fat in minutes flat.
Continue reading Burn Twice the Fat in Half the Time "Between" the Holidays!

Permalink | Email this | Comments

3 Easy Ways To Get More From Every Workout!

Filed under: Fitness, Guys' Guide, Men's Fitness

You don't always have to exercise harder to see more results. All it takes is knowing a few smart tricks that let your body reap more benefits from the same routine you're already doing.

These three tips can do just that, so you can pack on even more lean muscle, get even stronger and burn even more fat -- without having to change your favorite workout routine.
Continue reading 3 Easy Ways To Get More From Every Workout!

Permalink | Email this | Comments

5 Fast Ways to Stick to ANY Exercise Program!

Filed under: Guys' Guide, Men's Fitness
They say that December is the hardest month of the year to stay on top of exercise, but it doesn't have to be. No matter what you do to stay fit -- run, walk, cycle, weight train, kickbox, etc. -- there are five hard and fast rules to remember that most trainers swear by to keep their clients on track and in shape.

1. Imagine your fitness goals paying off. The biggest mistake most people make is forgetting why they're exercising in the first place. Sure, you may know you're exercising to trim up your waistline, but it's easy to lose sight of why being healthier, leaner or lighter is important to you. That's why many trainers insist that it's critical to take five minutes each day and picture the payoff of sticking to whatever exercise program you do regularly. Focusing on how you'll look or feel (or what you'll accomplish) once you reach your target fitness goal -- whether that's to drop 20 pounds, put on a few pounds of lean muscle, run a half-marathon, etc. -- can give you that extra push each day to find the time and energy to persist.

2. Exercise on the same days each week. The more scattered and unscheduled your workouts are, the easier it is to blow them off for another day. Picking specific days of the week (and a specific time of day), helps add a sense of importance to exercise by making it a part of your weekly schedule. This simple trick can make you less inclined to skip it, and, more likely to work the rest of your day around it.
The holidays can destroy your diet, especially when there is so much out there to tempt you. But how you react directly after you screw up big time can have major consequences that can bring your diet to a screeching halt if you're not careful.
Here are the three things you should never do after you've cheated on your diet -- so you don't sabotage your results later on.

Don't starve yourself. The first gut reaction most men -- and women as well -- tend to have after they've eaten something they shouldn't have is to immediately deprive themselves of food afterwards. Trying to correct the mistake of eating too much at one meal by eating less than usual for the next few meals (or days) only makes your body think that it's starving. Once it enters that mode, it immediately begins to store whatever few calories you do consume as body fat while it slows down your metabolism to conserve energy. Eating way less than normal can also increase your risk of binge eating as well, making you more susceptible to pigging out unnecessarily in the future.
Continue reading What You Should NEVER Do After You Cheat!

Permalink | Email this | Comments
